Line and Space Notes


Noteheads

Every note has a notehead. The notehead is the circular part of the note.







Staff

A staff is a set of five lines. The pitch of a note is indicated by placing the notehead on a staff.

Lines and Spaces

Line notes have a line through the center of the notehead.

Space notes have noteheads in the space between two lines.

higher and lower notes

Notes can go higher or lower than the staff using ledger lines. Line notes continue to have a line through the center of the notehead. Space notes above the staff sit on the highest line, and space notes below the staff are placed below the lowest line. The numbering of these notes refers to the number of ledger lines used, or if the note is on the space above or below the staff, simple stating that.
